Who are you, and what do you do?

I am Asim Adgözəl, a specialist in art history. Art is the artistic reflection of its era and helps us understand the processes that took place during that time. Just as we can learn about the lifestyle of hunters and gatherers from cave paintings dating back to 15,000 years, in the creative work of artists like Banksy or Ai Weiwei, we can also observe contemporary events, such as migrant flows. I didn't randomly choose migrants as an example. 'Migrants in Contemporary Art' is one of the topics I've been working on in the past two years. Additionally, I also strive to understand cultural diversity and development by exploring the cultural structures, belief systems, rituals, and art of evolving societies, which change and evolve over time. This interest inspires me to pursue the study of cultural anthropology.

Currently, the Besbarmaq Reserve is also my research subject. Fascinatingly, archaeological studies provide evidence that even in the 3rd millennium BC, the Besbarmaq Mountain held a significant role as a sanctuary for settled communities in the region. Imagine, despite the shifts in societies, civilizations, and religions throughout these millennia, the mountain has continued to serve as a place of worship for mountain-dwelling people. I derive great pleasure from working in such a mystical atmosphere, filled with an aura of mystery.

Feel free to connect with me on Instagram, and Facebook.

What hardware(tools) and software do you use?

I make use of a variety of tools and resources. Primarily, I turn to books, articles, digital catalogs, and archives when I am researching. In addition to these, I gather documents, letters, diaries, memoirs, and other written sources from museums, archives, and libraries. I enjoy jotting down my notes in a regular notebook with a black pen. For my fieldwork, my indispensable companion is the Canon 90D camera.

What would be your dream/dream setup?

My ambitions are huge, but in order to turn them into success, I need to improve myself first. While I continue to explore the depths of art history, I have also developed a serious interest in cultural anthropology. In addition to these, I have interests in fields like Photography, Mountaineering, and Speleology, and I would like to progress in these areas as well. I also have a utopian dream of creating an independent cultural research center in Azerbaijan. In this center, we could conduct comprehensive research in areas such as culture, art, history, language, cultural anthropology, ethnography, and similar fields. By studying cultural changes, social interactions, and the impact of these processes on people, we could understand the direction our society is progressing in. For this, I need a capable team above all else.
