Who are you, and what do you do?
My name is Leyla Vazehi Afandieva, and I was born on August 8, 1990, in the vibrant city of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. From a young age, I knew that art was my calling, and I pursued my dream with unwavering determination.
I embarked on my artistic journey at the Azerbaijan Academy of Arts, where I had the privilege of obtaining both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees. It was a moment of immense pride when I graduated with honors in 2012 and then again in 2014. The academy nurtured my creativity and provided me with a solid foundation to express my artistic vision.
Being a member of the Union of Artists in Azerbaijan has been a significant part of my artistic life. Through this esteemed association, I had the opportunity to showcase my artwork in various exhibitions, connecting with fellow artists and art enthusiasts who appreciated and admired my work. The recognition I received through honors, diplomas, and certificates only fueled my passion for artistic excellence.
As an artist, I find joy and fulfillment in capturing the beauty of still life, food art, and landscape watercolour paintings. Each stroke of the brush allows me to express emotions and stories that resonate with the viewers. It's a journey of exploration and discovery, constantly pushing the boundaries of my creativity.
Beyond traditional art forms, I am also deeply rooted in the rich heritage of my country. I have embraced the art of carpet weaving, a traditional craft that holds a special place in Azerbaijan's cultural tapestry. My fascination with this ancient art led me to become a member of the prestigious 'Azerbaijan Carpet Weavers Public Union,' an organization of great significance, representing the country's cultural heritage at UNESCO. I take immense pride in creating intricate and stunning miniatur carpets in the captivating eastern style.
Teaching has become another significant aspect of my artistic career. Since 2012, I have been sharing my knowledge and love for painting with children, nurturing their creativity and guiding them on their own artistic journeys. It's a rewarding experience to witness the spark of inspiration in their eyes and see them grow as artists.
In 2022, I began a new chapter as a teacher at the Western Caspian University. Guiding and mentoring students in their drawing and painting lessons brought me immense joy. It was a humbling experience to contribute to their growth and witness their passion for the arts.
As fate would have it, my dedication to art and education was acknowledged, and in 2023, I was appointed as the Deputy Dean at the Western Caspian University. It's an honor and a responsibility I embrace wholeheartedly, aiming to inspire and support the budding artists under my care.
My journey as an artist and educator continues to evolve, filled with passion and dedication. Art is not just a profession for me; it's a way of life, an expression of my soul, and a means to contribute to my cultural heritage and society as a whole. I look forward to what the future holds, eager to create, inspire, and make a lasting impact through my art and teachings.
