Mukul Gupta
Interviewed on September 9, 2022 in Consultant Data Scientist
Who are you, and what do you do?
I'm Mukul Gupta, and I am a data scientist and engineer. I pursued mechanical engineering in college but realised my passion to analyse and research on data, hence changing my tag from being a mechanical engineer to being a data scientist. As a data scientist, my main goal is to create methods to use data to help people run their businesses more effectively, make better decisions, and get a greater knowledge of how the world works. In addition to this, I am taking insights from various research papers related to data science to increase my knowledge to help me working on the current domain. Furthermore, I am working on NLP with hugging face and in deep learning on neural nodes. Also, I am doing my research and execution of datasets on cloud servers and cloud server architectures.
What hardware(tools) and software do you use?
HARDWARE-Like every other programmer and an Apple fan, I have an Apple MacBook Pro MVVJ2HN/A Ultrabook with a core i7-9750H 9th gen intel processor. I personally am a M1 chip enthusiast but since this laptop is provided by the industry, I don't mind using the second best chip Apple offers. It has a storage space of 512 GB and 32 gigs of DDR4 RAM.To make my working sessions less tiresome and more efficient, I also have a secondary 34 inch LG Odyssey G5 curved monitor, and for long shifts I have a Herman Miller chair which helps me in keeping my posture upright at all times. Since I am a tech enthusiast, I have a wide variety of headphones and earphones ranging from companies like JBL, SONY, NOTHING, AUDIO TECHNICA. SOFTWARE-My software stack is really complicated. I alternate between macOS and Ubuntu on a regular basis. MacOS is one of my favourite operating systems. My preferred programming environment is VSCode, but for proof-of-concept and experimentation, I prefer jupyter notebook on my local machine and sagemaker on the cloud.I think they're useful for analysing data, but I prefer VSCode for building models. A more test-driven development methodology appeals to me. Many of the technologies I employ are based on contemporary agile methods, such as test-driven development, infrastructure as code, and continuous delivery. I'm presently working with kubernetes to deploy models.
What would be your dream/dream setup?
My dream setup is to have a mac pro with the latest M1 chip as the performance that the rig provides is beastly. For the monitors I would love to have a dual monitor setup of the latest imac with xdr display. I would also love to have a macbook pro with a laptop stand to maximize work efficiency. Since I want my setup to be minimalistic I would opt for a wooden desk with built in motors so that it functions as both a standing and sitting desk. Since I want my setup to be minimalistic I would opt for a wooden desk with built in motors so that it functions as both a standing and sitting desk. Since work hours can be long and I generally work late at nights, I would like to have some RGB lighting behind my monitors to set the aura and tone for working.
